Lynchburg Classic Event Information

The 2009 Lynchburg Classic is set to begin, Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 3:15pm, at Lynchburg City Stadium.  The Lynchburg City Schools Combined Middle School bands will be performing the National Anthem.  Exhibition performances will be given by the Heritage Elementary "Heritage Pride"; Heritage High School Marching Band, and the E.C. Glass High School Marching Band.  Awards begin at 9:30pm.  Tickets will be available at the gate.    All in all, there are over 23 groups performing...one of our LARGEST groups of bands in recent history.

JUDGES: Scott Lambert, Music; Jeff Bryant, Music; Jim Bradshaw, Marching; John Casagrande, Marching; Mike Aycock, General Effect; Amy Davis, Percussion; Ryan Lipford, Drum Majors; and Philip Rainer, Color Guard. Matt Savage was originally scheduled to judge GE but was pulled away due to his duties with the UNC Marching Band that particular day. We feel we’ve found a GREAT replacement in Mike Aycock.

DIRECTOR REGISTRATION: Directors will receive a package when you arrive at City Stadium with additional details. Please check in at the registration table located in the parking area of the stadium. You will find any schedule changes, directors’ badges, chaperone tickets, etc. here. Please remember that this is a money making project for us and that you are only given one wristband for every 10 performing members of your group. All other individuals traveling with you must purchase a ticket in order to enter the stadium. Please inform your people of this so that there will be no confusion when you arrive.

SCHEDULING: The order of appearance was determined by the postmark of your entry form. Classification was determined by attempting to balance the number of playing members into four classes. Included in this letter is a schedule for the evening, including warm-up times and performance times. IF YOU PLAN ON ARRIVING EARLY, PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN HAVE GUIDES READY TO ASSIST YOU.

DRESSING ROOMS: Dressing rooms and restrooms (locker rooms) will be made available at your groups dress time at City Stadium. We have limited space so please work with your guides to move in and out of the dressing areas as quickly as possible. Please note: in order to limit confusion, please adhere to the dressing facility schedule; with the number of bands participating it is only fair to stick to the schedule. If you happen to arrive early you must either wait your turn or dress on your buses! Please help us by being sympathetic to our limited space.

EQUIPMENT: In order for things to move smoothly and stay on schedule we are asking that when at all possible you bring your own field/prop equipment assistance that you will need. We will provide several trailers and four wheelers to move you but sometimes with the amount of equipment bands are using these days this is not enough. So that the contest will remain on schedule, help us by organizing your things, bringing your own trailers, and helping us move your things as quickly as possible.

FIELD ENTRANCE: Bands will enter from the left and exit to the right. (Judge’s Perspective)

SCORING: 40% Music; 25% Marching; 25% General Effect; 5% Guard; 5% Percussion. Drum Majors are scored, but are not counted in overall scoring.

AWARDS: During the performance of the last band in class AAAA, all bands are ask to assemble Drum Majors and/or band captains for the awards ceremony. There will be first, second, and third place awards in each class. In addition, there will be first and second place awards in each class for all specialty areas (music, marching, general effect, drum majors, percussion, and colorguard.) The Grand Champion Award will be given to the Band with the highest score regardless of class.

DIRECTOR’S HOSPITALITY: There will be a director’s hospitality room for directors and staff. We hope you can take the time to stop in for some GREAT home-cooked food and desserts.

VIDEO: Pro Video, Inc will be video-taping each band. DVD’s will be available on site for $20 (individual bands); $40 (entire class); and $60 (whole show). Please pass on their flyer (attached) to your membership lists and boosters in advance of the show. Please note: there will not be a complimentary copy provided to directors….you’ll have to buy one. And, please tell your videographers they will not be allowed to climb the press box, as we have a contract with Pro-Video to do the videotaping. Thank you for your understanding on this. For more information, contact Vaprovideo@aol.com

PHOTOS: First Rate Photo will be on site taking action shots, candids, and stills. Photos will be available ON SITE. See their flyer for ordering information. Please pass on their flyer (attached) to your membership lists and boosters in advance of the show.

T-SHIRTS: Ink Spots Screen Printing will be printing custom shirts available on site.
